Less than a year after giving birth to her first child, Rihanna understood that if she was going to perform again, it would have to be better than anything she had ever done.
the multi-Grammy winner said, “If I’m going to leave my baby, I’m going to leave my baby for something special,” That something special turned out to be the upcoming 2023 Super Bowl halftime show. “It was now or never for me,” she said.
In support of Colin Kaepernick, the singer had already rejected to sing during the 2019 halftime show. However, in a recent interview conducted in advance of her “Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4,” Rihanna said that the timing and circumstances this time around were right for her.
Hopeful rumors about Rihanna’s long-awaited new album, which she has been teasing in previous years, surfaced after the NFL confirmed in late September that she would be the headlining act for the February concert. “ANTI,” her most recent album, was released in 2016.
The pop star just released the lead single for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” her first new music in six years, but she quickly dispelled rumors that an album was on the way after her Super Bowl performance. “That’s not true. Super Bowl is one thing. New music is another thing. Do you hear that, fans?” she said, laughing.
“The second that I announced this, I said, ‘Oh, my God, they’re going to think my album is coming. I need to get to work,’” she said.
Rihanna and rapper A$AP Rocky have kept the specifics of their child’s birth private despite her swift return to the spotlight after giving birth. His identity and any pictures of him haven’t been disclosed by the two.
she said, “We just didn’t get around to it yet, really. We’ve just been living. But I guess there’s a certain freedom that comes with kind of just like getting it out there,”
she said, “It’s always challenging to beat the one before,” The main issue will be next year because this year’s exhibition was such a massive size that I’m not sure how we’ll top it, but we’ll have to try.
In addition to a huge range of guest appearances, this year’s concert included performances by Anitta, Maxwell, and others in addition to Taraji P. Henson, Cara Delevingne, and Sheryl Lee Ralph. Before it became public knowledge that Johnny Depp would be attending, Rihanna granted an interview to the AP. Some fans demanded a boycott of Rihanna’s line if Depp appeared on the show because they were upset with Depp’s legal dispute with his ex-wife Amber Heard.
