Betty White is an elderly actress who is among the most famous comedians in  Hollywood ever. The 95-year-old is still vibrant with life and outstanding sense of humor that’s probably served her well throughout the years.

Many would probably think that being witty and cheerful is her recipe for success, but despite these things she also has a great sense of moderation. In all the years of her career she has never made any public announcement about her political beliefs and preferences.

But just recently, after being provoked in a face-to-face interview with Katie Couric she surprised the public with what she had to say. Couric pulled a typical trick where she tried to get the actress to start talking trash about  the President, but the way the actress responded, definitely left many people surprised and jaw dropped.

According to Opposing Views, White spoke to Yahoo News’ Katie Couric on her 95th birthday. The interview was regarding a variety of different topics, but eventually the question about the current state of our country came up. Even though Couric clearly insinuated that she was fetching for comments on the new president.

The Hollywood actress surprised the audience with her choice of words. Instead of going along with her host’s evil game, she avoided giving comments on the President specifically, at first and tried to give the conversation a more positive spin.

“The world is in a very interesting place right now,” Couric said. “What do you think about the state of our country and how divided it seems to be?”

On that Betty responded: “It’s very divided, and we’re not in the best place we’ve ever been. I think that’s the time to buckle down and really work positively as much as you can instead of just saying, ‘This is terrible. He’s terrible.’”

She went on adding, “Just think, ‘Alright, there’s nothing I can do about that right now but I can do the best in my little circle.’ So if I do that, maybe you’ll do your best and we’ll get through this.”

The actress believes that the only way out of this toxic environment is to try and think about things in a more positive manner.

“So many people think negatively it’s like, ‘oh, you know what I hate?’ Instead of ‘alright, I’ll get through this,’” the 95-year-old said. “Then all of a sudden you start lifting up a little bit, but if you start with ‘you know what I hate,’ you’re gonna go right down the tubes.”

She also said, “You’ve gotta get through it. And you can’t change it, so let’s just one foot in front of another and get through it.”

Katie Couric’s attempt to swing their conversation in another direction, to spitefully pick on our President again, was totally uncalled for. But this actress who successfully maintained her impartial political status for so long fell in the same trap Couric uses to set up the new millennial to talk about the President.

Betty White is a marvelous actress and a comedian who’s managed to outrun many of her colleagues in her industry. With this interview she has once again proven that unfortunately politics is mixed into every sphere of our society. And what’s even more sad it’s that  stars are blind to the fact  that this kind of attitude can only harm their industry.   White is a firmly established star who could have openly expressed her opinion without having to fear that the consequences of her words might shape up the rest of her career in a negative way. But, she chose not to. Young stars will cling to anything they can just to gain on popularity, and if that means to trash the President, then  by all means they’ll do that, even if it harms the industry they are living off, in the long run. It’ a shame that a 95-year-old  would have to do the same. Statistics paint a sad picture.

Paste Magazine reports:

“People just haven’t been going to the movies this summer—at least, that’s what the numbers are telling us. According to comScore (via THR), both box office revenue and ticket sales declined this summer, hitting record lows,”  “Revenue is down nearly 16 percent this year, lower than the 14.6 decline in 2014. As the summer of 2017 wraps up, it will end up as the first summer since 2006 to not make $4 billion in the box office. Additionally, ticket sales have reached a 25-year low.”

It is about time that  stars stopped using their platforms to push their agendas against the President.  White had the opportunity to set a better example for  the generations to come, but instead she blew it.
